Lots of talk in the campaign so far about experience.  Biden and McCain are supposed to have it, Obama and Palin do not.

But the so-called "experienced" candidate, John S. McCain, have pretty much through his experience out the window of the Straight Talk Express. On his way to trying to get elected, it has been made clear that the policies upon which his experience is based are completely bankrupt. It doesn't help to have experience as a deregulator when regulation is what we need. It does not help to have experience as a friend of the financial lobby when freedom from those lobbies is what we need. It is interesting, but sort of pathetic too, to watch McCain try to reinvent himself to suit the moment. Suddenly it is all Barack Obama's fault. His short career of not getting anything done is now somehow responsible for the mess we are in. Yet McCain's long history of "working across the aisle" to get things done, seems to have accomplished nothing at all. It may be time to stop worrying about experience and start considering who has a vision that points in a direction we want to go. The problem with the McPain ticket is not that it is or is not experienced. The problem is that the McPain vision of what the world ought to be is completely misguided. But where do we want to go?
