Minister’s Caucus Lunch

The Minister Caucus has two standing meeting per month.  The second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M. and the fourth Tuesday for lunch at 11:30 at Formosa’s on Lorna Road.

Florence Moore Jackson
JACKSON, FLORENCE MOORE Surrounded by her family, Florence Moore Jackson died peacefully at home Friday, December 19, 2008. She was born August 15, 1935 and raised in Shelby Gap, Kentucky. After attending high school at Pikeville College in Pikeville, Kentucky, she attended college at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, where she met her husband and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature in 1956. She also earned Masters degrees in English Literature and Gifted Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Lifelong educators, her family moved to Talladega, Alabama in 1967 when her husband took a teaching position at Talladega College. She taught English, Spanish, and French at Westside High School and Talladega High School. She also worked at the Talladega newspaper, The Daily Home, writing a gardening column and covering local politics. After relocating to Birmingham in 1983, she taught English literature and social science to gifted students at Huffman High School. She also indulged her passion for words and literature by being a member of the Advisory Committee for Writing Today, an annual writers’ conference at Birmingham-Southern College and served as the Chair of the 2004 conference. She was a longtime member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, and a ten-year member of the UAB Breast Cancer Support Group. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles F. Moore and Una Belle Elliot Moore both of Pike County, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Willis G. Jackson, her son Bennet L. Jackson and his wife Susan who reside in Anniston, AL, her son Robert M. Jackson and his wife Vivian who reside in Washington, DC, her daughter Elizabeth J. Murray and her husband Jim who reside in Birmingham and her grandchildren: Julia Rae Murray, J. Bennet Murray, Samuel G. Murray, Evan B. Jackson, Eliot S. Jackson, and Scott Johns. She is also survived by her brothers Hugh D. Moore and wife Margaret of Owensboro, KY, Charles E. Moore and wife Brucie of Waverly, KY, and her sister Anna Mary Morton and husband Jerry of Knoxville, TN as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. The visitation will be held at the Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood on Monday, December 22 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. with the funeral service to be held at the Cathedral Church of the Advent Tuesday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive guests following the service in the Parish Hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Music Discretionary Fund at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Avenue N, Birmingham, AL 35203 or the UAB Center for Palliative Care, 1530 Third Avenue S, Birmingham, AL 35294. Ridout’s Valley Chapel directing.
