The Election

We were at Matthew’s sort of commiserating with the Clyde Jones people.  Cheering for every state that got announced for Obama.

And then we thought “We should be at Boutwell for the acceptance speech”.  So we hurried over to Boutwell, listening to McCain’s concession speech on the way.  (By the way, telling the people to stop booing Obama now is a little too late, John.)

Okay, so we get to Boutwell, and the election had been called and McCain had conceded, and there were lots of people with kids who were heading out, but there was excitement there too.  I ran into some friends and we hugged, and high-fived (don’t remember any terrorist fist bumps, but it would have been okay).  So, there we are, waiting for the high point of the entire two years, and the authorities start telling us to get out.  What?  Okay, it was after 10:00 PM, but still, it is the most historical election night of my life, and they are chasing us out before it is even over.

I would suggest that next time, you find some place that will be able to accommodate the entire event.

So, anyway, we listened on the radio on the drive home, and caught the last few moments on TV at home.

It is nice to see a Democrat finally run a decent campaign.  And as for the charges of socialism, well, at least we did not have to accept the public financing.

Follow-up:  Sad to see Prop 8 pass in California.  Hilarious that the Alaskans reelected Stevens.  (I still think that Palin is going to resign as governor and get the next guy to appoint her as the replacement.  But she will need to be more forceful in getting Stevens to step down.  Maybe that is what those Alaskans were thinking all along.)
Elizabeth Dole loses—I guess there is a God after all.  We did not do as well locally here, but we are building a base.  More about the local scene later.  I am a little tired right now.
